Engage and Grow
Here to help you process your day to day, as well as unpack your past. Together we can work on building a healthy relationship with yourself and how you interact with the world around you. I create space for this as a Creative Arts Therapist, meaning that I will often utilize art making as a tool for processing, self-expression and assessment. This will look like engaging in typical talk therapy, and bringing in art when it makes sense for you. You do not need to be an artist or have any artistic training to engage in art therapy. Just a willingness to explore you in new ways.
My methodology consists of being trauma-focused, anti-oppressive, and client-focused. You are the expert of your life experiences, I’m here to help provide a space to understand it deeper. We can explore your moods, relationships and traumas (including race-based trauma and microaggressions).
Methodology explained:
Trauma-focused: Recognizing that there is nothing wrong with you, but that threats to your safety have shaped some of your behaviors and worldview. These include threats to you physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural safety. All of this is processable, and so is advocating for your own safety.
Anti-oppressive framework: Acknowledging existing power imbalances, it’s role in all forms of oppression, and the interconnectivity of said oppressions. What happens in your personal lives, even the moods your experience, are connected to the systems we live among and navigate. I approach mental health care through an intersectional lens and that requires me to confront these power imbalances, especially within the therapeutic space and the experiences you bring forward.
Client-focused: You are the expert of you, you lead the direction of therapy. Therapeutic space is space for self-exploration, gaining perspective and moving towards growth. Though as your therapist I will challenge you, it’s through reflection and empathy.
